Apply for a Grant from the Joe Busam Foundation

The Joe Busam Foundation was established in 1998 for the benefit of mentally, physically and emotionally handicapped individuals through the discretionary distribution of funds by the Trustees to organizations which provide for the support or care of these individuals and are tax-exempt under Section 501 c (3) of the Internal Revenue Code.

The Joe Busam Foundation provides financial assistance when hardship is evident for dire living conditions or for investigation, litigation and/or counseling as result of pedophile molestation.

General Foundation Policies

The Board of Trustees has adopted the following general guidelines in addition to the limitations imposed by the Internal Revenue Code.

  1. Funding priority is given to organizations that enhance and improve the quality of life of the handicapped person(s) they serve.
  2. Annual requests for funding is discouraged.
  3. Grants will directly benefit the individual or types of individual for whom requested and will not contribute toward any ongoing operational or administrative expenses of the organization.
  4. Scholarship programs will not be funded.
  5. Conferences and similar activities generally will not be funded.

Grant Application Guidelines

Initial approach for grant application can be made by letter or full proposal. The Board of Trustees has no application form. However, it does request that the applicant comply with committee guidelines to the fullest extent. These guidelines are: Submit one (1) original and five (5) copies of the following information: [PDF Grant Application]

  1. Name, address, phone number and founding date of the applicant organization.
  2. Statement of purpose of organization.
  3. Description of current services and activities of organization.
  4. Name and age of individual for whom funding is sought and specific handicap.
  5. Purpose for which grant is requested; explanation of need and benefits expected.
  6. Amount of grant request and project budget.
  7. Plan for permanent financial support of project, if applicable.
  8. Listing of all other sources of funding or support solicited and received for this individual/project in the past two years.
  9. References of individuals who can attest to the need of the individual for whom funding is requested.
  10. Budget and most recent financial statement for fiscal year.

Submit one (1) copy of the following information:

  1. Copy of "Letter of Determination" from the Internal Revenue Service verifying that the applicant is exempt from Federal income tax under the provisions of Section 501 c (3) of the Internal Revenue Code.
  2. For the most recently completed fiscal year (a) a Statement of Support, Revenue and Expenses and Changes in Fund Balance; (b) a Statement of Functional Expenses; (c) a Balance Sheet- preferably audited.
